Julian Kirzner

Julian is a founding Director of Mawson and brings over 20 years’ experience in high growth investments. A Chartered Accountant with a long-standing record of success, Julian specialises in financial strategy, commercialisation, corporate leadership and is a driver of business performance.


Julian works closely with business owners and leadership teams to help them navigate through complex commercial challenges and is renowned for an outcomes based approach. He has significant expertise across a number of industries, with specialised interests in construction, health, manufacturing and retail. 

Most recent success includes:

  • equity growth strategy and capital plan for a leading Australian telecommunications company.

  • restructure and business transformation of prominent retailer.

  • corporatisation and capital plan for a health-related technology organisation.


Julian is a director of a number of Mawson Investment companies and is a key advisor to the boards of a number of prominent healthcare, retail and manufacturing businesses.

Michael Paidoussis

Michael brings a wealth of experience and knowledge across both the corporate and private enterprise spheres. He specialises in business growth and transition management and is a registered Psychologist with a strong interest in organisational psychology.


Since 2013, Michael has led Mawson’s Growth team, working alongside business owners and management teams to implement strategies and navigate their companies through times of change and growth.

Michael has built an impressive track record of success delivering innovative commercialisation and business growth strategies for his clients, complemented by his wide-spread network of relationships and deep community ties. 


Most recently, Michael has:

  • partnered with two major manufacturers to restructure and transform their organisations, building a sustainable and competitive advantage.

  • assisted a number of clients navigate the COVID pandemic whilst working with their management teams to ensure the business remains viable whilst simultaneously meeting ESG goals and ultimately boosting profitability.


Concurrently, Michael has built and sold multiple businesses in technology, construction and finance and is on the board of a number of businesses across the construction, manufacturing and retail industries.

Phillip Spry

Leading Mawson’s Restructures & Turnarounds team, Phillip has managed the successful restructure of some of Australia's most iconic businesses. 


A Chartered Accountant with over 15 years’ experience in consulting, management, strategy and transactional services.  Philip has consulted to privately owned Australian businesses and held roles at Tier 1 accounting firms and ASX listed companies.


Phillip has most recently:

  • led a national manufacturer from the brink of collapse to profitability and two-fold revenue growth. 

  • successfully negotiated complex workout solutions for Australian businesses with major financiers and landlords.


He has developed the necessary relationships with financiers, landlords, unions, professional firms and various large Australian businesses to assist his clients navigate their way through a restructure. Phillip retains deep relationships with his clients well after the conclusion of formal engagements. 


Phillip has board advisory roles for a number of Mawson Investments.

Gummy New

Gummy is a senior finance executive. He has successfully fulfilled multiple leadership roles throughout his career, bringing a wealth of experience and innovation across corporate and private enterprises both domestically and abroad. Gummy is a CPA and holds an Executive MBA (Honours) from Melbourne Business School.


Possessing insightful commercial acumen, Gummy has an impressive track record of success in business growth through partnering with clients to develop and execute practical business strategies, including: capital raisings, M&A, performance enhancement, corporate leadership, financial and management accounting, cost-efficiency programs, taxation as well as systems, policy and process development and implementation across a variety of professional disciplines. With an expansive network of business contacts, Gummy has built a reputation on leveraging business development and growth opportunities to deliver value for clients in the SME space.


Scott Robson

Scott is a specialist in financial strategy, capital and turnarounds with almost a decade of corporate advisory experience. He is known for his ability to link strategy and finance to drive performance improvement initiatives.


Scott has a focus on advisory projects for companies with capital and profitability challenges. Key industry experience includes manufacturing, telecommunications, retail and logistics.


He recently completed a role on the board of Aussie Broadband prior to its successful listing on the ASX.

Since 2014, Scott has been a leader of Mawson's Restructures & Turnarounds team, involved in its most successful corporate recoveries. Scott previously worked at one of Australia’s largest accounting firms in its financial advisory team. He is a registered Chartered Accountant and a graduate of Monash University (BComm - Finance and Accounting).


Paul Spottiswood

Paul leads the Mawson Capital team, comprising the capital raising and private equity investment management businesses within Mawson.

Paul has over 20 years’ experience in investment banking and corporate advisory in Australia, Asia and Europe. Paul has successfully led capital raisings, acquisitions, buyouts, trade sales, restructures and recapitalisations for private company clients in the leisure, health, logistics, financial services, property and technology / disruption industries.

Paul has an extensive track record of identifying, analysing, structuring, and executing investment opportunities, principally and on behalf of clients. He specialises in establishing high quality investment products for investors with whom he has strong and long-standing relationships, including
industry superannuation funds, global pension funds, family offices, private equity, special situations investors, private debt investors, financial planners and high net worth investors.  

Paul’s recent experience includes:

  • partnering with a leading private logistics business – initially undertaking a management buyout, before acquiring a further three targets (and raising the required capital), before setting the business on the road to an IPO on the ASX.

  • establishment of, and capital raising for, the leading unlisted property fund for major industry superannuation investors.

Jean-Marc Barbeau

Jean-Marc is a business growth and transformation specialist with over 25 years experience in improving, advising and managing businesses around the world.

Jean-Marc is a qualified Chartered Accountant with multinational corporate strategy and business transformation expertise. In 2009 he turned his extensive corporate experience to the benefit of privately held businesses.

Jean-Marc works alongside business owners and leadership teams to restructure and enhance their strategy and operations to produce transformative outcomes. He is renowned for his ability to cut through complexity, identify the critical issues and formulate innovative commercial solutions.


Recent successes include:

  • 15x EBIT growth transformation in a successful but plateaued automotive industry client, achieved in 20 months.

  • 4 x revenue growth resulting from a diversification strategy applied to a local equipment business now a national medical equipment supplier to hospitals.


Jean-Marc also has a strong background in business coaching, organisational change, business finance, leadership development, cultural change, supply chain management, business process re-engineering, systems development, project management and continuous improvement.
